SVC Women's Tennis
8/30 - Seton Hill

The Lady Bearcats opened the 2008-09 season with a 7-2 victory against Seton Hill University of Greensburg.

SVC swept all three doubles matches.  Meghan Wells and Kim Meier were 9-7 winners, while Allie Botti and Alexis Cup won their match 8-4.  In the #3 doubles match, Nicole Peer and Jessa Paruch won their debut by an 8-4 score.

In singles play, four Lady Bearcats posted wins - Allie Botti, Kim Meier, Alexis Cup and Emily Morris.  The Megan Wells/Christy Bungo match at #1 singles was the day's most exciting event.  Wells lost the first set 3-6, but came back to win the second 7-5.  The third set had to go to a tiebreaker, with Bungo earning a 12-10 victory.  Brittany Vignero also lost in singles for SVC, but took her match to three sets.

9/2 - Grove City

The Lady Bearcats were defeated on the road by a 7-2 count by perennial power Grove City College.

Grove City, which has won the Presidents' Athletic Conference championship in 20 of the past 21 years, swept doubles play, but the Lady Bearcats played well in singles competition.

Meghan Wells picked up the victory for SVC at the first singles spot by a 6-1, 6-4 count, while Kim Meier extended her singles winning streak to 14 in dramatic fashion.

Playing third singles, Meier dropped her first set 4-6, before her next two sets went to tiebreakers.  She won 7-6 in the second set before clinching the match with a 10-6 tiebreaker win.

Alexis Cup, playing number four singles for SVC, dropped two very close sets, by scores of 5-7 and 4-6.

9/8 - Bethany

The Lady Bearcats defeated the visiting Bethany College Bison 9-0.

SVC dominated in singles, with victories earned by Allie Botti, Alexis Cup, Emily Morris, Brittany Vignero, Rebecca Cronauer and Megan Mahoney.

Botti and Cup, playing as the #1 doubles team, were down 7-4 in their match, and twice went to match point but came back to win, 9-7.  Other doubles winners were the teams of Nicole Peer/Jessa Paruch, and Caitlin Brozek/Carri Meiler.

9/13 - Allegheny Invitational

For the second time in three years, the Lady Bearcats won the Nancy Heath Invitational, held at Allegheny College.

In the first round, Saint Vincent defeated Case Western Reserve in a hard-fought match, by a score of 5-4.  Meghan Wells, Kim Meier and Alexis Cup earned wins in singles competition.  In doubles, the teams of Allie Botti/Cup and Nicole Peer/Jessa Paruch were winners to seal the victory for Saint Vincent.

The win set up a rematch for the title between the Lady Bearcats and Allegheny College.  In 2006, Saint Vincent defeated Allegheny for the title, while Allegheny downed SVC last year to even the score.  This time, Saint Vincent once again came out on top, by a score of 5-4.

Wells, Botti and Meier scored victories in the top three singles positions.  In doubles, the teams of Wells/Meier and Botti/Cup were victorious, giving Saint Vincent the championship.

9/16 - Chatham

The Lady Bearcats posted an 8-1 victory on the road over Chatham University.

Emily Morris (#2), Rebecca Cronauer (#3), Nicole Peer (#4), Megan Mahoney (#5) and Caitlin Brozek (#6) all posted wins in singles play.

SVC swept all three doubles matches, with wins by Kim Meier/Mahoney, Brittany Vignero/Jessa Paruch and Brozek/Allie Botti.

9/17 - PSU-Altoona

The Lady Bearcats improved to 6-1 on the season with a victory over visiting Penn State-Altoona.

SVC, a 7-2 winner on the day, captured four singles matches:  Kim Meier won in the #1 singles spot to remain undefeated on the year, while Emily Morris was a straight set winner at #2.  The #3 singles match was completed under cover of darkness, with Jessa Paruch gaining a victory for Saint Vincent.  After losing the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6, Paruch won the second set in similar fashion, 7-6.  The third set was another back-and-forth battle, with Paruch ultimately winning, 15-13. Brittany Vignero was also a winner in the #6 singles spot.

In doubles, SVC swept all three matches.  Meier and Kim Wells were winners in the #1 position, while Allie Botti and Nicole Peer won their #2 doubles match.  Vignero teamed with Megan Mahoney to defeated PS-Altoona in the #3 spot.

9/21- Westminster

The Lady Bearcats were 6-3 winners over Westminster College on the road.

SVC used strong play in singles, winning five of six matches, to record the victory on the day.  Meghan Wells, Allie Botti, Kim Meier, Alexis Cup and Emily Morris all won their singles events.  The team of Wells & Meier also were winners in the #1 doubles match for the Lady Bearcats (7-1).

9/26 - Mount Union

The Lady Bearcats picked up a home win over Mount Union College by a score of 6-3.

Meghan Wells and Nicole Peer each were two-time winners on the day.  Wells teamed with Kim Meier for a doubles win, while Peer and Jessa Paruch earned a doubles victory.

In singles, Wells was joined by Alexis Cup, Emily Morris and Peer in the win column.  The downside for the Lady Bearcats was a singles loss by senior Kim Meier, who had not dropped a singles match since her sophomore year.  Meier, who was playing with an injured hand, lost 3-6, 5-7 in the #3 singles position for her first loss in two years.

9/29 - W&J

The Lady Bearcats swept visiting Washington & Jefferson College on the SVC campus courts, winning 9-0.

SVC only lost one set on the afternoon, as they dominated the visiting Presidents.

9/30 - IUP

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats scored an impressive 7-2 victory over visiting Indiana University of PA, a Division II NCAA school.

Despite competing without #1 singles player Meghan Wells, Saint Vincent won five of six singles matches.  Allie Botti, Kim Meier, Alexis Cup, Emily Morris and Megan Mahoney all won their singles matches.  In doubles, Botti teamed with Cup for a win, while Jessa Paruch teamed with Mahoney for a victory.

Saint Vincent is now 10-1 on the season and continues to play well in every match, using different lineups featuring the entire roster.

10/5 - St. Francis

In a rare outcome, Saint Vincent and Saint Francis University finished their match tied, 4-4.

Saint Francis, a Division I NCAA school, held a 2-1 lead after the completion of doubles play.  The lone SVC win was by the team of Allie Botti and Alexis Cup.

Cup was also a winner in the #3 singles position, while Emily Morris (#4) and Nicole Peer (#5) also won in singles.

The #1 singles match was a close battle between SVC's Allie Botti and Abigail Ball of SFU.  Botti won the first set, 6-4, while Ball won the second, 7-5.  Due to time constraints, the coaches decided to end the match at that point, resulting in a draw, and a 4-4 final score.

10/7 - Clarion

Clarion University defeated Saint Vincent by a score of 7-2, in a match played at Clarion.

SVC picked up a pair of singles wins - Kim Meier in the #2 singles position and Emily Morris, playing #4 singles.

Only one doubles team, Cup and Allie Botti, picked up a victory (#2).

Meghan Wells (#1), Nicole Peer (#2) and Vignero (#4) won in singles competition.

The season will go into the books as the most successful in program history, as the team finishes the fall with a record of 13-3-1.

March Spring Trip to SC
