2/18 - Tiffin

The Lady Bearcats opened the 2006 season with a 5-4 victory over visiting Tiffin University.

Ashley Ogline and Kim Meier each posted two wins to lead Saint Vincent.  They were victorious in singles and paired for a doubles win as well.

The teams of Sarah Rendulic/Lori Orthen and Libby Shaw/Ellie Fayen also recorded wins in doubles play.

3/4-9 - Florida

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats won their first contest, then dropped the final two matches of the week during their spring trip to West Palm Beach, Florida.

The week started with an 8-1 victory over Capital University, avenging two earlier losses.  "We lost to them the past two seasons," said Coach Jim Bendel.  "It was nice to finally beat them."

Singles winners were Lori Orthen, Ashley Ogline, Ashley Nord, Ellie Fayen and Kim Meier.  Doubles winners were Sarah Rendulic/Orthen, Libby Shaw/Fayen and Ogline/Nord.

Against Wheaton College, SVC was outmatched, falling 9-0.  "Some of the matches were reasonably close," said Bendel.  "They're just a stronger team.  In tennis, you either win or lose, and against them we lost."

The team wrapped up the trip with a 6-3 loss against Northwood University.  Meier and Ogline were winners in singles play, while the team of Ogline and Nord captured their doubles event. 

3/18 - Pitt

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats were shut out by the University of Pittsburgh on the road.  The final, using the NCAA scoring format, was 7-0.

3/24 - Cal U of PA

The Lady Bearcats were overmatched by D2 California, losing by a score of 9-0.

3/29 - Walsh

Walsh University, one of the top teams in the American Mideast Conference South Division, won a non-conference matchup over SVC by a score of 6-3 in a match held at Legion-Keener Park in Latrobe.

Kim Meier was a two-time winner on the day for the Lady Bearcats (2-5), winning her singles match (10-5) and while teamed with Libby Shaw in doubles (8-5).

4/5 - Carlow

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats swept AMC foe Carlow University in a non-conference matchup by a score of 9-0.

Singles winners were Libby Shaw, Kristin Blahovec, Jenna McLaughlin, Avyn Bartrug and Kate Healy.  Doubles winners were the teams of Healy/MacKenzie Grills, McLaughlin/Bartrug, and Shaw/Blahovec.

4/9 - Ursuline

The Lady Bearcats defeated Ursuline College by a score of 9-0 to open American Mideast Conference play.

Singles winners were Lori Orthen, Sarah Rendulic, Ellie Fayen, Ashley Nord, Ashley Ogline and Kim Meier.

Winning doubles combinations were Orthen/Fayen, Rendulic/Nord and Ogline/Meier.

4/10 - West Liberty State

The Lady Bearcats defeated West Liberty State University in a non-conference matchup, posting a 5-4 final score.

Singles winners for SVC were Libby Shaw and Kim Meier.  A doubles win was recorded by the team of Lori Orthen and Ashley Ogline. SVC picked up two other victories -- #6 singles and #3 doubles -- by forfeit.

4/12 - Roberts Wesleyan

4/20 - Seton Hill

The Lady Bearcats improved to 3-0, good for first place in the American Mideast Conference North Divsion, with a 7-2 victory over Seton Hill University.

SVC started quickly, with three doubles wins from the teams of Lori Orthen/Ellie Fayen, Libby Shaw/Kim Meier, and Sarah Rendulic/Ashley Nord.

Singles wins were posted by Ashley Ogline, Meier, Nord and Fayen.

4/21 - Geneva

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcat tennis team clinched first place in the American Mideast Conference North Division with an 8-1 victory over Geneva College.

With the victory, they clinch not only first place in the division, but also a bye in the first round of the AMC Tournament.

Doubles winners were the teams of Lori Orthen/Ellie Fayen, Libby Shaw/Kim Meier, and Sarah Rendulic/Ashley Nord.  Singles winners were Rendulic, Fayen, Meier, Ashley Ogline and Shaw.

4/22 - Carlow

The Saint Vincent Lady Bearcats put the finishing touches on a perfect conference schedule, defeating Carlow University by a score of 9-0.

The victory was the team's 7th in a row, and allowed them to finish with a perfect 5-0 record in the American Mideast Conference North Division and a 9-5 overall record.  The team has earned a bye in the first round of the AMC Tournament.

Singles wins were recorded by Libby Shaw, Krista Long, Avyn Bartrug, Jenna McLaughlin, Aliesha Pocratsky and Kristin Blahovec

Doubles winners were the teams of McLaughlin/Bartrug, Shaw/Blahovec and MacKenzie Grills/Pocratsky. 

5/5 - AMC Playoffs - Cedarville

The Lady Bearcats fell in their American Mideast Conference semifinal playoff to Cedarville University by a score of 7-2.

"It was a close a 7-2 match as you can play," Coach Jim Bendel commented.  "We lost four matches that could have easily gone the other way."

Kim Meier, voted the team's Most Valuable Player for the season by the coaching staff, won her #4 singles event by scores of 7-5 and 6-0.  "Kim has played in about 20 matches this year and only lost twice," said Bendel.  "What a great season she's had for us."

SVC's #1 doubles team, Lori Orthen and Ellie Fayen, also earned a victory over Cedarville by an 8-5 margin.

The #3 team of Sarah Rendulic and Ashley Nord had a 7-5 lead, but could not hold off their CU counterparts, falling by a 9-8 score.

Orthen won the opening set of her #1 singles match by a 6-3 score, then dropped the next two sets 3-6 and 1-6.

Fayen, playing in the #3 position won her opener 6-2, then lost 0-6 before taking the deciding set to a tie-breaker, losing 7-6.  Libby Shaw, in the #5 singles spot, had a similar fate, winning 7-5, losing 4-6 then dropping a third set tiebreaker, 7-6.

Saint Vincent, champions of the AMC North Division with a 5-0 record, end the year at 9-6 overall.
