Center to Present 'The Benefits of Freedom,' Lecture by Joshua Hall of WVU

Joshua HallThe Center for Political and Economic Thought of the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government will present a lecture by Professor Joshua Hall of West Virginia University at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the Fred M. Rogers Center at Saint Vincent College.  His talk is titled, “The Benefits of Economic Freedom.” Admission is free and open to the public.

Hall is a professor of economics at West Virginia University and director of the Center for Free Enterprise. He is editor of the Journal of Regional Analysis and Policy and the Journal of Entrepreneurship and Public Policy. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from Ohio University, and a Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 2007. Prior to returning to his alma mater, he was the Elbert H. Neese Jr. Professor of Economics at Beloit College. Hall is a past president of the Association of Private Enterprise Education and is also a Senior Fellow at the Fraser Institute.

The Center for Political and Economic Thought is an interdisciplinary public affairs institution of Saint Vincent College. It sponsors research and education programs, primarily in the fields of politics, economics and moral-cultural affairs. The Center seeks to advance scholarship on philosophical and policy concerns related to freedom and Western civilization with particular regard to the American experience. The Center was founded in 1991 as an outgrowth of the Alex G. McKenna Economic Education Series, which was launched in 1986.

The Center’s programs include the Alex G. McKenna Economic Education Series, the Government and Political Education Series, the Civitas Forum on Principles and Policies for Public Life, Culture and Policy Conferences and Scholarships and Fellowships. In addition, the Center supports research and educational activities through its staff and produces numerous publications.
