LATROBE, PA – The Christmas season at Saint Vincent College will kick off with a trio of musical performances in early December.
The Saint Vincent Camerata’s Sixth Annual Festival of Lessons and Carols is slated for Thursday, Dec. 5, Handel’s Messiah will be performed by the Saint Vincent College Singers and Festival Choir on Saturday, Dec. 7, and a special Saint Vincent Family Christmas Songfest is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14.
All three performances begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the historic Saint Vincent Basilica. Tickets for all three can be purchased by calling 724-805-2177.
The Saint Vincent Camerata is comprised of singers from the College, Seminary, Monastery and from the local community. The Camerata was created in the spirit of the Florentine “Camerata di Bardi,” a 16th century gathering of friends dedicated to music, poetry, art and science. Since 2008, it has been under the direction of Fr. Stephen Concordia, O.S.B. Tickets to the Festival of Lessons and Carols are $12.
On Dec. 7, conductor Thomas Octave, associate professor of music and chair of fine arts at Saint Vincent College, will lead the Saint Vincent College Singers and Festival Choir as they perform Handel’s classic Messiah. General admission tickets are available for $15, while patrons can also attend a special pre-concert benefit for $75.
Octave will also lead the Dec. 14 Family Christmas Songfest in the Basilica. Families and friends are invited to come together to enjoy the traditional carols of the season and sing along with soloists, the chorus and chamber orchestra. Tickets are available for $15.
