Dr. Christopher McMahon, associate professor of theology at Saint Vincent College, served as co-editor and contributor, and Dr. Patricia Sharbaugh, assistant professor of theology, served as a contributor to the Jan. 1, 2013 issue of the Journal of Moral Theology: Christology.

Theology department graduate Julie Pomerleau and current senior Luke Briola were editorial and research assistants for the publication.

Dr. McMahon’s article is entitled, Beyond the Historical Jesus: Embracing Christology in Scripture, Doctrine and Ethics, and Dr. Sharbaugh’s article is The Light Burden of Discipleship: Embodying the New Moses and Personified Wisdom in the Gospel of Matthew.

The Journal also contains articles by Paul J. Wadell of St. Norbert College, Paulinus Ikechukwu Odozor, C.S.Sp. of the University of Notre Dame, Michael J. Gorman of St. Mary’s Seminary and University, Elizabeth Newman of Baptist Theology Seminary, Neil Ormerod of Australian Catholic University and Jeffrey P. Bishop of St. Louis University. David Matzko McCarthy also served as a co-editor.

“The Journal of Moral Theology focuses on Catholic moral theology,” Dr. McMahon explained. “It is concerned with contemporary issues as well as our deeply rooted tradition of inquiry about the moral life. Its mission is to publish scholarly articles in the field of moral theology, as well as theological treatments of related topics in philosophy, economics, political philosophy and psychology.”

“The current issue is dedicated to the exploration of Christology and its implications for doing moral theology,” he continued. “In other words, it explores how certain beliefs about Jesus, or certain ways of thinking about Jesus, impact how Christians approach life in general and the moral decisions they make.”

The Journal is sponsored by the Fr. James M. Forker Professorship of Catholic Social Teaching and the College of Liberal Arts at Mount St. Mary's University. The general editor for the Journal is Dr. David M. McCarthy, The Fr. James M. Forker Professor of Catholic Social Teaching at Mount St. Mary’s University.
