Created in consultation with local dioceses and housed in the Saint Vincent Theology Department, the Pastoral Ministry Certificate offers undergraduate students a unique, interdisciplinary course of study designed to prepare them for meaningful service in the Church. Combining theological depth with practical ministerial formation, the 27-credit certificate equips students with the theological knowledge, practical skills, and firsthand experience needed to minister effectively in a variety of settings, from youth ministry to diocesan administration.
The flexibility of the certificate allows students to tailor their coursework to their individual interests, strengths, and vocational goals in a way that is both professionally enriching and spiritually meaningful.
The certificate is open to all students of any major. Students enrolled in the certificate are also eligible to apply for the Saint Gregory the Great Program in Pastoral Ministry.

For the certificate, in addition to theology courses, students engage disciplines such as psychology, counseling, and communication, gaining valuable insights into the pastoral and human dimensions of ministry. A required Introduction to Pastoral Ministry course helps students integrate their academic studies, learn alongside peers who share a passion for serving the Church, and explore a wide range of ministry opportunities. A required semester-/year-long Ministerial Practicum allows students to move beyond the classroom and encounter the daily realities of pastoral ministry firsthand in a local parish.

For a Theology and Psychology/Communication/Business Administration double major, this would be an additional 3 credits. For a Psychology/Communication/Business major with a Theology minor, this would be an additional 6 credits.)
