Dr. Jeff Godwin has academic, corporate, and church related work experience. Before coming to St. Vincent College, he taught at Virginia Tech while obtaining his Ph.D. degree. Dr. Godwin taught for 12 years at West Virginia Wesleyan College. During this period, he was chair of the Business and Economics Department for 10 years as well as director of Wesleyan’s MBA program for two years. In addition to teaching, he has helped organizations as a consultant in strategic planning and corporate management training.
Dr. Godwin’s corporate experience includes employment as a bond underwriter. This involved extensive financial analyses as well as evaluating corporate capacities. Dr. Godwin has served on several nonprofit boards, including hospice and United Way organizations.
Dr. Godwin is an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church. He served in a variety of church capacities, including youth director for Blacksburg United Methodist Church; director of spiritual care at New River Valley Hospice; minister of visitation for Dulin United Methodist Church; and five years as pastor of Masontown United Methodist Church. Presently, The United Methodist Church appoints him to teach at St. Vincent College.
Dr. Godwin’s research interests are primarily in the areas of transformational leadership, self-leadership, gratitude, and management from a Biblical perspective. In addition to conference presentations, his research record includes articles published in the: Journal of Biblical Integration in Business; Journal of Management, Spirituality, & Religion; Journal of Leadership and Management; Journal of Small Business & Entrepreneurship; Journal of Organizational Behavior Education; Journal of Management Education; Human Resource Management Review; Journal of Managerial Psychology; Journal of Management Development; International Journal of Organizational Theory & Behavior; Administrative Sciences; and Journal of Applied Behavioral Science. These articles have been cited over 1200 times.
Beyond his education, employment, and research activities, Dr. Godwin’s life experiences include: collegiate varsity football and track; church youth group leader; middle school and high school coaching in track, soccer, and football; member of the Academy of Management; induction into his high school’s Athletic Hall of Fame; rank of Eagle (Boy Scouts of America); and an 18 year member of the board of directors for Hospice Care Corporation. Dr. Godwin’s has past work in church related boards and agencies in the West Virginia Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church include: the Board of Higher Education and Campus Ministry; the Vision and Restructuring Task Force; and a four-year member of the Board of Pensions.
