Dr. Sean Durkin joined the Saint Vincent College music faculty in 2022. Originally from the Greater Pittsburgh Area, Dr. Durkin is a two-time winner of the United States Army Band National Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition (2017, 2018) and a winner of the International Trombone Association Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition (2017). He has completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees in trombone at The Pennsylvania State University and earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Illinois.
Dr. Durkin directs the Saint Vincent College Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, and Pep Band. He also serves as the applied low brass lesson instructor and teaches courses in the music and core curricula. Outside of Saint Vincent College, Dr. Durkin has spent time performing and teaching as a visiting artist at the Esteban Salas Music Conservatory in Santiago, Cuba. He is on staff with the nationally award-winning Kiski Area High School Marching Band in Vandergrift, PA, and teaches music lessons privately.
