Data science professor publishes textbook on health analytics

LATROBE, PA – Dr. Mary Regina Boland, assistant professor of data science, published a textbook with Springer​ Nature titled “Health Analytics with R: Learning Data Science Using Examples from Healthcare and Direct-to-Consumer Genetics.” This book was published in January 2025, and since then has sold over 3000 copies both online and in print. This book teaches the readers how to take direct-to-consumer genetic data from companies such as 23andme, AncestryDNA and more and learn insights from these vast sources of data. The book also covers environmental health exposures, socioeconomic affects and the ethics of health analytics, making it suitable for undergraduate and graduate level courses.
