LATROBE, PA – Bruce Antkowiak, C’74, JD, law professor and senior legal counsel to Saint Vincent College and Saint Vincent Archabbey, presented a criminal law expertise webcast Friday, Aug. 22, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI) on vehicle stops and searches in the Commonwealth.
Nationally recognized for his criminal law expertise, Antkowiak possesses a rare combination of academic precision and real-world courtroom experience, the PBI said.
“I am humbled that a statewide organization like the Pennsylvania Bar Institute would characterize me as a nationally recognized expert on criminal law,” Antkowiak said.
The 1977 Harvard Law School graduate has dedicated his life to this area of law as a prosecutor, defense counsel and professor.
“While the criminal system will deal with people of wealth and power, it is a system which mainly affects the poor. They are the victims, defendants and witnesses in most cases,” he said. “If a society can be just when dealing with the poor, all of society may proudly proclaim itself just. My efforts in this area are dedicated to that goal.”
During the webcast, Antkowiak guided participants through the nuances of Fourth Amendment protections, Pennsylvania’s unique approach to automobile searches and how to interpret and apply the latest case law developments.
