LATROBE, PA – The Fred Rogers Institute at Saint Vincent College is proud to announce “Toward Intention with Technology: Engaging Technology with Curiosity and Meaningful Boundaries in Homes and Schools,” a multi-part symposium series designed to inspire thoughtful conversations about technology and media in the lives of children and young people.
Partnering with Erin Walsh of the Spark and Stitch Institute, along with other leading voices in child development and education, this series will explore how caring adults can engage technology with curiosity, compassion and intentionality. Participants will consider what the latest research reveals about media use among children and adolescents, reflect on Fred Rogers’ pioneering approach to new media and learn strategies for creating healthy digital environments at home and in schools.
“We live in a world where technology shapes nearly every part of children’s experiences,” said Emma Swift Lee, director of the Fred Rogers Institute. “This series invites educators, parents and caregivers to approach technology with purpose, care and curiosity.”
The symposium includes four engaging virtual sessions:
“Adolescence Online: Growing Courage and Connection in a Digital World”
Dec. 8 from noon to 1 p.m. The intended audience is parents and educators of adolescents.
“Technology in Early Childhood Education: Engaging with Wonder and Purpose”
January 2026, date and time to be determined. The intended audience is early childhood educators and administrators.
“Compassion Over Shame: Setting Loving Limits with Media at Home”
February 2026, date and time to be determined. The intended audience is parents.
“Curiosity and Awe in Technology and Media Use”
March 2026, date and time to be determined. The intended audience is caring adults excited for quality engagement with technology.
Each event will invite participants to explore how intentional engagement with media can nurture relationships, creativity and learning. The Fred Rogers Institute welcomes parents, educators and all caring adults to join these timely and inspiring conversations.
