Saint Vincent College’s McKenna School adds 2 new minors

by Public Relations | December 11, 2025

LATROBE, PA – The Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government at Saint Vincent College recently added two new minors—business administration and sports management—to its academic offerings.

“These two minors were created to give students more options and to best serve them,” said Dr. Michael Urick, C’04, dean of the McKenna School. “The sports management minor presents an option for students who want to study aspects of the sports industry without committing to an entire major in the area. The business administration minor will especially help students who don't want to major in a business discipline but want some basic academic exposure in business concepts and don't want to specialize in a particular area.”

“It also is good for a student who might want to change their major from business to something else,” Urick added. “They would still be able to graduate with a minor in business even if they choose not to pursue a full business major.”

Required courses for a business administration minor include Organizational Behavior, Principles of Marketing, either Financial Accounting or Survey of Accounting, and either Principles of Macroeconomics or Principles of Microeconomics. Students will also pick three additional classes out of the following seven options: Business Ethics, Business Law, Corporate Finance, Leadership, Management of Information Systems, Managerial Accounting, and Statistics and Analytics I.

Required courses for a sports management minor include Managerial Accounting, Organizational Behavior, and either Survey of Accounting (for non-business majors only) or Financial Accounting I. Students will also pick four additional classes out of the following six options: either Leadership or Leadership in Sports, Sports Administration, Sports Law, Sports Media, Promotion and Marketing, and Sports Venue and Event Management.
