“Camelot” is based on the legendary love triangle of King Arthur, Guenevere and Sir Lancelot from T.H. White’s “The Once and Future King,” which serves as Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s source material. The musical takes place in mythical, medieval England, primarily in and around King Arthur’s castle and the surrounding woods.
The Players’ production is directed by Greggory Brandt, director of theater operations and an assistant professor of theater at Saint Vincent College.
“This has been on my bucket list to direct for quite a while,” he said, “and this was the perfect year with the perfect cast of students to perform one of my favorite musicals.”
Brandt, who also serves as the producing artistic director for Saint Vincent Summer Theatre, added that performing a musical of this magnitude requires profound commitment and the superb talents of a wide range of individuals.
“It also requires a special group of amazingly talented students who deserve to be performing in this distinct material,” Brandt said. “They continue to impress me as well as make me proud.”
