LATROBE, PA – Dr. David A. Dzombak, C’79, Hamerschlag University Professor Emeritus in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, will be the featured speaker at Saint Vincent College’s 2026 Spring Honors Convocation.
The convocation will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, in the Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica.
Dzombak is a premier environmental engineer and a leading authority on water quality engineering, water resource sustainability and energy-environment issues. The Saint Vincent alumnus has authored three books during his career in addition to publishing more than 170 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, as well as op-eds and articles for the popular press.
At Carnegie Mellon University, Dzombak has held numerous leadership positions including head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering from 2013-2022 and associate dean for graduate and faculty affairs for the College of Engineering from 2006-2010.
Dzombak earned a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Saint Vincent College, then bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon. He received a doctorate in civil engineering in 1986 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Honored as a Saint Vincent College Alumni of Distinction in 2006, Dzombak was also given an honorary Doctor of Science degree in 2010 and previously served as a member of the Board of Directors from 2012-2024.
His father, Dr. William C. (Bill) Dzombak, instructed various chemistry courses for 33 years at Saint Vincent before retiring from teaching at the College in 1986. He subsequently was honored by the College as a distinguished professor emeritus. His son, Will Dzombak, is a music management executive best known for helping advance rapper Wiz Khalifa’s career.
