LATROBE, PA – Saint Vincent Summer Theatre (SVST) continues its 56th season with “Honky Tonk Angels,” scheduled to hit the stage from July 7 through 12.

The feel-good, jukebox musical set in the 1980s and created by Ted Swindley follows three women—a Texas housewife, a sassy southerner and a career-driven “citified” girl—who meet on a train to Nashville as they pursue stardom.

“Angela” is played by Sarah Chelli, “Sue Ellen” by Madeline Grace Smith and “Darlene” by Leah Prestogeorge.

The musical is packed with 30 classic country and gospel hits including those from Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. Familiar hit songs include “Stand by Your Man,” “9 to 5,” “Coal Miner's Daughter,” “Delta Dawn” and “These Boots Are Made for Walking.”

“If you aren’t tapping your foot or mouthing the words, then you just aren’t listening well enough. I promise you’ll have a fabulous time when attending this show,” said Greggory Brandt, who serves as SVST producing artistic director, director of theater operations and a professor of theater at Saint Vincent College. “I’m very honored to continue the rich history and tradition that is Saint Vincent Summer Theatre. It’s not easy to follow the many successes throughout the years of the Summer Theatre, but I promise to continue to produce professional theater in the heart of our vibrant and beautiful college campus.”

All shows this season are directed by Brandt and will take place in the Performing Arts Center, located within the Robert S. Carey Student Center on campus.

“Honky Tonk Angels” will have eight performances with 2 p.m. matinees on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday. All evening performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for all performances can be purchased online. For group rates and additional box office details, call 724-537-8900.

Complimentary transportation will be provided from the parking areas to the Performing Arts Center. A limited number of handicap parking spaces are available closer to the theater.

The Cabaret, an after-show reception where patrons can enjoy a hotdog, popcorn and a drink for $5 per person, will also be offered following evening performances only. Tickets for the Cabaret can be purchased when patrons arrive for the show or during ticket purchasing online.

Looking ahead, SVST will wrap up its season with “Rounding Third,” a comedy focused on baseball, scheduled for Sept. 8 through 13.
