LATROBE, PA – The first “Process and Practice: Alumni Art Talk” is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 3 p.m. at the Verostko Center for the Arts, located inside the Dale P. Latimer Library at Saint Vincent College.
“A Conversation Across Perspectives” with Fr. John Peck, O.S.B., S’89, and Donovan Baxter, C’24, will feature an engaging discussion about their work featured in the current “Bearcats Create: Art by Saint Vincent Alumni” exhibition on display in the Center.
Throughout the fall, the exhibition is complemented by the Verostko Center for the Arts’ new “Process and Practice” educational series, offering artist talks, demonstrations and hands-on workshops led by participating alumni. These programs will provide visitors with unique opportunities to learn directly from exhibiting artists and gain deeper insight into the ideas, techniques and creative processes behind their work.
Program dates and additional details will be announced throughout the semester. The series is designed to extend the exhibition beyond the gallery walls by connecting audiences with the artists and creative processes represented in “Bearcats Create.”
Fr. John is a monk of Saint Vincent Archabbey, while Baxter serves the College as graphic designer in the Office of Marketing and Communications. The two were classmates in a variety of art classes at the College.
Through a dialogue exploring materials, techniques, inspiration and artistic process, the artists will share how their unique perspectives, generations and life experiences shape the way they create.
Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the ideas and approaches represented in the exhibition.
“Bearcats Create” is the Center’s inaugural exhibition devoted exclusively to the work of Saint Vincent alumni. It was juried by Alison Brand Oehler, who serves as co-director of Concept Art Gallery in Pittsburgh. The exhibition celebrates the lasting impact of the College’s visual arts program while highlighting the accomplishments of graduates whose creative practices continue to enrich their communities and professions.
The exhibition is on view through Dec. 4, 2026.
