Most recent data places McKenna accounting program 4th in Pennsylvania
LATROBE, PA – Data from the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy shows Saint Vincent College students are earning exemplary scores on the Uniform Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Examination.
The most recent pass rate data (2024) shows first-time CPA test takers whose highest degree is a bachelor’s from Saint Vincent College registered a 75% pass rate. The average pass rate nationwide is 49.2%. Out of 59 eligible schools in the state, Saint Vincent’s pass rate is tied for fourth and in the top 7%. Out of over 750 schools in the country, the College is in the top 35 and top 5%.
To be an eligible institution, schools must have had at least five alumni CPA candidates sit for the exam during the year.
“The high pass rate speaks to the strength of our accounting program, which is very highly regarded as an excellent program and our students are widely sought after by employers,” said Dr. Michael Urick, C’04, dean of the Alex G. McKenna School of Business, Economics and Government at Saint Vincent College. “So many accounting firms in the region employ at least one, if not many, Saint Vincent alumni, and this high pass rate is a testament to the excellence of our students and alumni. It is also a testament to our accounting faculty who work tirelessly to provide an exceptional education for our students.”
The College offers a comprehensive accounting program designed to give students a strong foundation in both accounting and business.
“The CPA exam is an extremely difficult exam, often requiring multiple attempts for students to pass,” said Christina Gibson, an instructor of accounting within the McKenna School. “The fact that SVC students are passing the exam the first time is a testament to our students’ hard work, passion and dedication to their accounting careers and their ability to apply the accounting and business knowledge learned from the McKenna School. I could not be prouder of these students.”
