LATROBE, PA – Saint Vincent College today announced the launch of a new honors program that will bring high-achieving students together for a more enriching college experience.
Named “SVC Honors,” the program will begin enrolling students in fall 2026. Students enrolled in the program will receive a $2,000 renewable scholarship, special housing and recognition at graduation. They will also be able to participate in international trips as well as academic and social events alongside their peers.
“The new honors program is an opportunity for students to invest in their future,” said Father Paul Taylor, O.S.B., C’87, S’91, Saint Vincent College president. “It is a unique way for our students to experience Hallmarks of Benedictine Education such as discipline, stewardship and community.”
Students enrolling in SVC Honors will experience a common freshman year focused primarily on their core curriculum. After the first year, they will choose one of four academic paths: Aurelius Scholars of Western Civilization; Benedictine Leadership Scholars; Faith, Science and Technology Scholars; and SEEK (Service, Exploration, Experience, and Knowledge) Scholars. Students can also forge their own path by working directly with the SVC Honors director.
“These four paths are designed to apply to all subject areas we teach,” explained Dr. John Delaney, vice president for academic affairs at Saint Vincent College. “Each of them represents an approach to learning that aligns with our Benedictine principles while keeping the focus on academics and experiential learning.”
Each path will culminate in a capstone seminar that integrates the SVC Core, their major area of study and the Honors curriculum. All SVC Honors students will participate in lectures, panel discussions, conferences and seminars. They will also engage in service projects on campus and join domestic and international trips that complement their coursework, creating a foundation for a fruitful and rewarding life.
The SVC Honors program will be closely aligned with other academic scholarships at Saint Vincent. STEP Scholars, Wimmer Scholars and Fred Rogers Scholars will be able to participate in SVC Honors activities to embrace community and mutual collaboration.
Applicants for the program must first be admitted to the College. Applicants are evaluated based on their GPA, essay, and interview. For more information, contact the Saint Vincent College undergraduate admission office at 1-800-782-5549 or admission@stvincent.edu.
