LATROBE, PA – Saint Vincent College was recently recognized in the inaugural edition of “TIME” magazine’s America’s Best Colleges 2026-2027, listing the top 500 postsecondary education institutions in the United States.
“TIME” magazine, in partnership with Statista, highlights the US colleges that provide the best return on investment and value for their students. The methodology evaluates the institutions on student outcomes, learning environment and attractiveness.
This framework retains classical components used in higher education assessments, such as the instructional environment and institutional resources, while placing particular emphasis on what students gain from attending an institution relative to its cost.
Student outcomes include graduates’ earnings, graduation rate and return on education. Learning environments include student-to-faculty ratio, core expenditure per student and diversity index. Attractiveness examines the degree to which an institution is pursued by prospective students.
The three evaluation areas are operationalized through a set of quantitative indicators derived from federal datasets, which are normalized and aggregated according to a transparent weighting scheme (student outcomes, 75%; learning environment, 15%; and attractiveness, 10%).
The rankings feature postsecondary education institutions across the country. There are more than 2,500 degree-granting four-year colleges and universities in the United States.
Various data are sourced from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, maintained by the National Center for Education Statistics; the College Scorecard, published by the US Department of Education; and the American Community Survey, published by the US Census Bureau.
“To be listed in the top 500 colleges and universities, among the thousands in the United States, is a distinct honor,” said Father Paul Taylor, O.S.B., C’87, S’91, PhD, president of Saint Vincent College. “Our faculty, particularly, are to be commended for their dedication to excellence for our students.”
The “TIME” magazine ranking complements recent evaluations for the College. In the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings, Saint Vincent climbed 10 spots among the nation’s top liberal arts colleges.
During the summer, Saint Vincent earned an A- grade in the annual Forbes College Financial Grades. The ranking placed the College among the state’s strongest private institutions and fourth among private colleges in western Pennsylvania. The grades assess institutions on factors such as operational stability, enrollment growth, financial reserves, tuition revenue and long-term fiscal health.
Saint Vincent was also named a College of Distinction for the fourth consecutive year, recognizing its commitment to engaged learning and student success.
The favorable rankings come at a time of significant growth at the College. Saint Vincent welcomed its strongest incoming class in eight years this fall amid continued investment in the College’s academic programs, facilities and financial aid.
The Saint Vincent community recently began using the new Dunlap Family Athletic and Recreation Center, a facility that expands opportunities for wellness, recreation and student life. Rhodora and John Donahue Hall, the future home of Saint Vincent’s growing nursing programs, is under construction and scheduled to open early next year. In close partnership with Saint Vincent Archabbey, the historic Sauerkraut Tower is being preserved and repurposed into the Latimer Library Tower. The reimagined structure will feature exhibition and gallery space, research areas for special collections and a reading room for study and reflection.
The College also remains committed to making a Saint Vincent education affordable for students and families through its Bearcat Advantage Program, which recently increased its eligibility threshold to $100,000 for the 2027-28 academic year. The pioneering initiative, launched in 2023, seeks to ensure that eligible first-time students from Pennsylvania families with a total annual household income within that threshold receive fully funded tuition thanks to a combination of grants and scholarships.
