Fred Rogers Institute to host Community Open House

LATROBE, PA ­– On Tues., Mar. 12, from 3:30-5:30 p.m., the Fred Rogers Institute will be hosting an open house, welcoming community members into the building for family fun, refreshments and a chance to learn about the opportunities and resources available through the institute. The open house will be held in the Fred Rogers Center, located on the Saint Vincent College campus.FRI-Open-House-Flyer.JPG

This is the first ever open house for The Fred Rogers Institute, and all are invited to attend. Some of the activities for the event include a raffle with baskets from local businesses, a chance to meet Chili the Mini Horse from Chili Pepper Mini Horse Therapy, an exploration of cherished items from the Fred Rogers Archive and a special Fred-inspired exhibit in the McCarl Coverlet Gallery.

The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit will have a table to share resources and opportunities with educators and families. Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve will have "touch and feel" nature items for children and families to explore as well as resources and information on their programming. WQED and the Latrobe Art Center will be present with their own activities, and the Fred Rogers Scholars will lead puppet making and other activities.

“The Fred Rogers Institute is grateful to be based at Saint Vincent College in Fred's hometown of Latrobe and wants to welcome our neighbors for a fun afternoon,” said Emma Lee, associate director at the institute. “We are glad to share about our resources and opportunities for local educators and families and to celebrate Fred Rogers' legacy during his birthday month.”

David Newell, who played Mr. McFeely on “Mister Rogers' Neighborhood,” will be in attendance to take and autograph photos. Neighbors of all ages to are called to join in this celebration.
